Our Story
StumpX was founded in 2019 by a group of Utah natives with a love for the outdoors.
We are dedicated to serving the property owners of Bountiful to Santaquin and helping them improve their outdoor spaces. No matter what the challenges or obstacles look like, our mission is to combine aesthetics and professional stump grinding to create long-term solutions for each client’s vision.
Spencer Townsend
Business Owner, Entrepreneur
At a young age, Spencer’s first job was a paper route. In high school, he started his first business as a DJ. Upon graduating from Copper Hills High school he pursued a degree in construction management and started building residential homes. Since then. he has run a few other successful businesses - including a premium tree trimming/removal business. This is where he learned how to grind stumps. Spencers has found the knack to start and run small service-type businesses, and says his secret to success is “good common sense”.
Mike Butler
Tennessee Roots
Mike was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He concluded his high school career in a small town in Washington, UT. He graduated with a BS degree in environmental science. Due to his upbringing around horses and the beauty of nature, making outdoor living more enjoyable for people comes quite naturally.
Outdoorsman, Entrepreneur
At 10 years old, Mike moved to Utah and lived on an acre lot. He had good mentors that taught him how to work and take care of the land - this is where he met Spencer. They were backyard neighbors and grew up playing baseball, enjoying the outdoors, and riding bubble tire three-wheelers. They swiftly formed a friendship that would last a lifetime. In his spare time, he loves to coach baseball and fish.
